Ragtime Fun – Intermediate to Advanced

This week’s featured lesson we’ll be taking a look at a Ragtime style piece I’ve entitled “Ragtime Fun” in the key of C. We’ll be making use of many chromatic runs and Doc Watson influenced licks inside this solo. We’ll also be playing these licks and runs over a ‘VI – II – V – I’ chord progression. So, it’ll have a little bit of a Western Swing feel as well. There is an A and a B part to this tune which totals over 40 measures of music. I’ve included a rhythm lesson as well, so you can get a good idea of how I would approach accompanying this style of tune. These Ragtime tunes are a lot of fun to play both rhythm and solo over. Go ahead and give it a try!
