Freight Train – Carter-Style and Flatpicking Arrangements

This lesson is for the classic tune ‘Freight Train’ done in the key of C. I’ve created two arrangements for this tune. The first time through we’ll learn a basic Carter Style version where we’ll play the melody ‘right within the chords.’ The second time through we’ll get a little fancy and become more expressive with the melody by adding hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides and eighth note runs. We’ll also move amove into 3rd position and play the melody on the higher strings, almost like a Doc Watson Approach.
